The first Meeting of 2023 was a HUGE success!
With 48 members, coming out for the first meeting of the year, we definitely had a full crowd for a local Robson Resident, Dr Bill Gengler. He is a board-certified veterinary dentist, with 26 years of experience in general small animal practice, and 20+ years of experience in dental specialty practice. In his presentation Dr Gengler explained how plaque forms and how that leads to further problems and why oral health is so important to our dogs (and us). Bottom line is that tooth brushing is the Gold Standard for caring for your dog's teeth. Daily recommendations include:
1. Daily Brushing
2. Dental Diet
3. Dental Treats
4. Safe Chew Toys
Avoid ultra hard chew toys such as: Antlers, Bones, Beef Hooves, Nylon Bones. And before you purchase Oral health products for your pets, please visit this website: http://vohc.org/ The Veterinary Oral Health Council sponsored by the American Veterinary Dental College. All Products listed on the site have been tested and certified for efficacy and safety.
Below is the majority of Dr Gengler's presentation, however, due to the size restrictions imposed by our free website (we can't complain if it's free, can we?) several of the pictures of dog's teeth with calculus (tartar) and periodontal disease had to be deleted. Much of the most important information remains however including recommendations for Dog food, toothpaste, chews and treats.
