Animal Investigation and Rescue (AIR)
Animal Investigation and Rescue (AIR) President and Co-Founder, Monica Ailey, along with volunteer Kim Meloncon were the speakers at our February meeting. AIR is a 501(c)(3) animal protection organization that assists law enforcement, animal control agencies and communities with animal abuse related issues such as puppy mills and animal hoarding as well as disaster relief. Based locally in Argyle Texas, Animal Investigation and Response was formed by two certified animal cruelty investigators who saw a need to help connect agencies with strategies and resources to investigate as well as provide aid for situations that exceed the scope of a community’s reach.
AIR works with law enforcement and animal control to assist communities with limited resources to pursue animal cruelty and neglect cases. AIR helps communities understand the current animal welfare laws, assists law enforcement in building cases against abusers, provides skilled responders to staff and run emergency sheltering while animals are in custody and works with placement partners to get the animals into safe, reputable rescue organizations.
Animal Investigation & Response (AIR) also has certified Emergency Responders who can function under ICS, national and state protocols in dealing with natural disaster relief. AIR provides communities with resources, manpower and equipment to staff an emergency shelter. AIR can also provide veterinary support and networking assistance for displaced animals in the community to reunite individuals with their lost animals.
All of their services are at no cost to the requesting agency.
Members were able to see videos of a couple of rescue operations. In March 2023 the Olney Police Department seized 26 dogs living in deplorable conditions. The Humane Society of Young County called Animal Investigation and Response (AIR) to help care for the confiscated dogs. In February 2023, AIR emergency response team assisted the Burkburnett Police Department and Humane Society of Wichita County in the seizure of over 400 animals from a pet store in downtown Burkburnett, TX.
It takes special people to do this kind of work and AIR is filled with dedicated volunteers but they are always looking for more support. If you are interested in volunteering, go to their website at https://animalinvestigationandresponse.org/. Of course another way to support this organization is to donate on the website: https://animalinvestigationresponse.ddock.gives/?showBg=
