Stephen Knight from Dogs Matter was our guest speaker for our July meeting,
As all of us know, the love we have for our dogs can be quite fierce and we wouldn't give them up for anyone or for any reason. But imagine if you're in the position of wanting to get sober but not wanting to give up your dog? What could you do? Where would your beloved pet go?
And that's how Dogs Matter came into being. One person reaching out for help with her dog inspired Stephen Knight to start Dogs Matter.
Dogs Matter provides a valuable service to people wanting to get help from alcohol/drug addiction by finding temporary foster homes for their dogs while they are in rehab. Stephen talked about several clients and their situations but the video of the reunion of the dog with its owners brought tears to my eyes (even without sound!). For anyone who has a family member or friend consumed by alcohol/drugs it is heartening to know that there are organizations that are there to help them with their pet while they get better. But the help doesn't stop there! Dogs Matter continues to follow up and support clients with their After Care program.
A 501c organization, Dogs Matter has a huge need for funds. If you are interested in donating to this valuable organization, CLICK HERE.
But what Dogs Matter also needs is people interested in fostering dogs for owners going into rehab. If you are interesting in fostering and helping someone by taking care of their dog, Foster App here.
And for those of you interested in seeing Stephen receive a huge surprise for Dogs Matter on the Kelly Clarkson Show, see it here.
