Dr Kirk Rexroat from Argyle Family Chiropractic was our guest speaker for the October meeting. Certified in human, canine and equine chiropractic care, Dr Rexroat gave a very informative talk about the importance of spinal adjustment and why it would be needed. He explained how similar a dogs skeleton is to a human's and how the same stresses can affect their spines. Dr Rexroat also talked about how some dogs are more prone to needing adjustments. For instance, long torso dogs such as dachshunds are especially prone to spinal mis-alignments especially from jumping down from furniture but many dogs can benefit from being aligned by a chiropractor. He discussed some of his past canine cases, including adjusting a young dachshund that was dragging its legs and it running around the next day. Dr Rexroat then proceeded to adjust Lassen, a 14 year old Border Collie mix belonging to Lorraine. Lassen has hip dysplasia and has seen Dr Rexroat several times in the past for adjustments. Members were able to see the difference in how Lassen walked shortly after the adjustment.
